Broadway’s ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Posts End Of Summer Gain

Broadway held steady as the summer season came to a close with the Labor Day holiday, with the 25 productions grossing a total $26,258,361 for the week ending September 6.

The total reps a small 2% increase over the previous week and about a 4% jump over last year at this time. Total attendance was 220,836, down a negligible 1% from the previous week and up 3% year-to-year.

All of the productions reported at least some gains over the previous week, likely boosted by tourism over the long holiday weekend. The biggest gain – $240,630 – was made by Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, taking in $1,819,963 as Tom Felton settled into his second week back from vacation.

The week’s sell-outs were Hamilton, Just In Time and Oh, Mary!, with Hadestown, MJ, The Lion King and The Rocky Horror Show all coming in at 99% of capacity. Coming close to that mark with at least 90% of seats occupied were & Juliet, Buena Vista Social Club, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Operation Mincemeat, Paranormal Activity, Schmigadoon!, The Book of Mormon and Titanique.

At the lower end of the attendance spectrum, with fewer than 70% of seats filled, were Six, Stranger Things: The First Shadow and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).

Top five earners for the week were Hamilton ($2,187,028); MJ ($1,849,850); Harry Potter and the Cursed Child ($1,819,963); The Lion King ($1,714,434); and The Lost Boys ($1,281,191). Hamilton had the top average ticket at $204.66, with the overall Broadway average at $118.90.

In the 15th week of the 2026-27 season, Broadway has grossed season-to-date $489,296,981, down about 5% from last year at this time, with total attendance of 4,011,339 down just 1% year-to-year.
