For most actors, portraying a legendary movie character would be the opportunity of a lifetime. For Despina Mirou, one iconic role simply wasn’t enough.
In Scarface Resurrection, the award-winning international actress takes on one of the most demanding performances of her career, portraying herself while also transforming into Tony Montana and Elvira Hancock, two of the most recognizable characters in film history.
Inspired by the enduring legacy of the 1983 classic Scarface, the film reunites original cast members and new talent in a project that celebrates the movie’s lasting influence on popular culture. Joining Mirou are Steven Bauer, Roberta Pacino, the late Ángel Salazar in one of his final screen appearances, Michael Musto, and an ensemble cast assembled by director Eric Spade Rivas.
For Mirou, preparation became an exercise in total immersion.
She studied every detail of Tony Montana’s explosive confidence and every nuance of Elvira Hancock’s sophisticated elegance. To portray Elvira authentically, she transformed physically, losing nearly twenty pounds before filming began. She also completed much of her own makeup, allowing each character to emerge through painstaking attention to detail.
“It took about seven minutes to become Michelle and forty minutes to become Tony,” Mirou says.
Director Eric Spade Rivas encouraged creative freedom throughout production, allowing Mirou to improvise scenes and collaborate on dialogue that expanded her performances beyond the script.
Filmed throughout New York City—from Times Square and Rockefeller Center to historic theaters, churches, and rooftops—the production became an unforgettable creative experience.
But Mirou’s commitment didn’t stop when the cameras stopped rolling.
Night after night, she brought Tony Montana and Elvira Hancock to New York comedy clubs, performing before live audiences who watched in amazement as she seamlessly moved between the two iconic personalities.
