Does Lee Young-Ae’s K-Drama Have a Happy or Sad Ending?

Starring Lee Young-Ae as Cha Se-Eum, Maestra: Strings of Truth aired its finale episode on Sunday on Disney Plus and tvN. The thriller K-drama ended with the lead character coming face-to-face with the culprit who poisoned her.

Previously, viewers saw Cha Se-Eum learning about Remington’s disease diagnosis. She used to think the reason she was sick was because of the disease that passed on to her from her mother. In episode 11, Se-Eum discovered that it was not the disease, but Lee Luna was slowly poisoning her.

Hwang Bo-Reum-Byeol’s Lee Luna, who was Se-Eum’s right hand at the orchestra, turns out to be the culprit. The finale explores her obsession with the lead character and how their story ends.

Maestra: Strings of Truth episode 12 spoilers: Cha Se-Eum sets up a trap to catch Lee Luna

Maestra: Strings of Truth episode 12 begins with how Hwang Bo-Reum-Byeol’s Lee Luna slowly poisoned Cha Se-Eum (Lee Young-Ae). She purchases Scotilla-min drug from her sister’s partner and keeps injecting in Se-Eum’s room freshener, plants, and perfumes.

Luna also kills Jin Ho-Eun with the same poison and attacks Kim Phil in a similar manner. However, the latter doesn’t die. When Se-Eum and Lee Mu-Saeng’s Yoo Jung-Jae find out the truth, they try to contact her secretary. The latter appears to be at Luna’s apartment while she is trying to escape. She attacks him and runs away.

Lee Young-Ae’s character feels helpless seeing people around her get hurt because of her. The police get hold of Luna’s sister but can’t figure out her whereabouts. The sister then approaches Se-Eum and tells her that Luna tends to get obsessed with people. She reveals that Luna is adopted and is obsessed with her mother. It was later discovered that Luna faked her adopted mother’s sugar levels and intentionally made her sick until she died due to an overdose.

After hearing about Luna’s past, Se-Eum decides to set a trap to catch her. She announces an orchestra event where she and Luna will perform. She picks the musical form Passacaglia, which Luna mentioned in her diary as one of her wishes to perform with Se-Eum. The orchestra group, including Lee Si-Won, chooses to support her despite the plan being dangerous. While others begin to lose hope, Se-Eum is confident Luna will show up.

When Se-Eum begins playing Passacaglia, Luna enters the stage with her violin and finishes the piece with her mentor. They meet again in Se-Eum’s green room, where the cops catch her. Luna looks betrayed and moves towards Se-Eum in a way to attack her. Instead, she pulls out an injection with the poison and injects it into her own neck.

Maestra: Strings of Truth ending: Did Cha Se-Eum & Yoo Jung-Jae end up together?

Despite the poison, Luna survives and is locked up in prison. The Maestra: Strings of Truth ending shows that Lee Young-Ae’s Cha Se-Eum leaves the orchestra and plans to go on a world tour. She bids farewell to her group and family. Next, she visits her estranged husband, Kim Phil, who is in hospital after Luna attacked him.

Se-Eum learns that Phil’s memory has been compromised because of the poison. She then pays her mother’s grave a visit, where Jung-Jae (Lee Mu-Saeng) meets her. In his playful manner, he tries to accompany her on her world tour. The Maestra: Strings of Truth ends with the two walking into the sunset, adding romance to the atmosphere.

Although the finale doesn’t clearly show the two being a couple, the ending hints at their budding romance. Overall, Maestra: Strings of Truth has a happy ending.

Viewers can watch all the episodes on Disney Plus.
