Another wide release has been added to the spring calendar with Black Bear‘s Guy Ritchie-directed In the Grey opening in theaters on April 10.
In the Grey was produced by Ritchie and Ivan Atkinson for Toff Guy, John Friedberg for Black Bear and Dave Caplan for C2. Black Bear acquired the film’s distribution rights from Lionsgate, which previously was slated to handle domestic release before Black Bear launched its internal U.S. distribution operation. In a deal that preserves both parties’ involvement, Lionsgate will continue to handle the film’s digital and pay-TV distribution.
On April 10, In the Grey joins Neon’s The Christophers, Universal’s You, Me & Tuscany starring Halle Bailey and Rege-Jean Page, as well as an untitled Shudder Films release and untitled Gkids movie.
Written and directed by Ritchie, the original action film stars Henry Cavill, Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González, Kristofer Hivju, Oscar winner Fisher Stevens and Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike.
In The Grey follows a covert team of elite operatives who live in the global shadows, as comfortable wielding power and influence as they are automatic weapons and high explosives. When a ruthless despot steals a billion-dollar fortune, the team is sent to steal it back on what would be for anyone else a suicide mission. What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiraling into an all-out war of strategy, deception and survival.
“Guy is one of the all-time greats when it comes to creating action as fun as it is gripping,” said Benjamin Kramer, President of U.S. Distribution for Black Bear. “In the Grey features every ounce of his trademark style and wit, not to mention a hugely talented cast led by Jake, Henry and Eiza. We are thankful to our partners at Lionsgate, whose flexibility and collaboration have been instrumental in bringing this together. We look forward to continuing to work with them as we bring this great film to audiences.”
Black Bear has the Jason Statham movie Shelter opening this weekend.
