Written by Michael Kennedy, known for his work on Freaky, and directed by Tyler MacIntyre, It’s a Wonderful Knife is a dark and twisted take on the beloved Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. The film’s intriguing tagline, “every time a bell rings an Angel gets to kill”, sets the tone for what’s to come. It’s a Wonderful Knife has been rated “R” for “Bloody violence, drug use and language.”
The story revolves around Winnie Carruthers, portrayed by Jane Widdop, who resides in the picturesque town of Angel Falls. A year after her heroic act of saving the town from a menacing serial killer known as “The Angel“, Winnie finds herself ostracized by the very people she saved. In a moment of despair, she wishes she had never been born, only to find herself trapped in a chilling parallel universe where “The Angel” is still on the loose. With time running out, Winnie must unveil the identity of the killer and find her way back home.
Christmas horror films have always held a special place in the hearts of horror fans. Classics like Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Krampus, and others have set the bar high. However, It’s a Wonderful Knife stands out, primarily due to Kennedy’s unique storytelling style. His previous work, Freaky, released in 2020, was lauded for its innovative approach to the slasher genre, blending horror with humor seamlessly. With It’s a Wonderful Knife, expectations are high for another classic that pays homage to iconic R-rated slasher franchises like Scream and Halloween.
The film’s official domestic poster, released recently, playfully references the 1946 classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, further piquing our interest.
Mark Ward, RLJE Films’ Chief Acquisitions Officer, expressed his excitement about the film’s release, stating, “Over the last few years, we’ve been fortunate to have released horror/holiday films that have been embraced by audiences and we believe this one is no exception.”
It’s a Wonderful Knife is set to ring in the Christmas cheer, albeit with a blood-soaked twist, on November 10, 2023. Don’t miss this thrilling ride!
