Spider-Man 4 has just set an unwanted Rotten Tomatoes score. Brand New Day had its star-studded premiere at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
Unfortunately, despite some positive reviews from the critics, the movie is witnessing an all-time low. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s rating has fallen to 89%. This marks the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score a Spider-Man movie has ever received in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home had the lowest rating till now, at 91%. This was followed by Homecoming (2017) and No Way Home (2021), which had 92% and 93% ratings, respectively. Currently, the popcornmeter is not available.
What are critics specifically praising about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
While the ratings don’t paint the brightest picture, critics seem to be happy with what they have seen, especially with how Marvel has broken its trend of treating any post-Avengers film as filler or buildup to the big release.
Brand New Day’s plot picks up four years after the happenings of No Way Home. With nobody having an idea about Spider-Man’s real identity, Peter Parker is fighting crime and navigating through life all alone. Reflecting on the movie, @PickYourBrian wrote, “Peter Parker is changing, and so is the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise. #SpiderManBrandNewDay is the most emotional, most mature, and most atmospheric installment in the franchise. It’ll meet your expectations in some places and defy them in others.”

@MultiverseColor stated, “#SpiderManBrandNewDay is a bold swing in the right direction for an evolving character and franchise. It keeps what you love while balancing a more mature tone that meets the characters where they are. And the action scenes look phenomenal! @SpiderManMovie.”
Critics have also heaped praise on Sadie Sink. With her character still a mystery, her deeply emotional performance seems to have left everyone who attended the premiere impressed. Describing Sink’s role, Deadline wrote, “the introduction of the mysterious character played to the hilt by Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) who proves without question she has the chops to take on a complex three-dimensional role of a young woman whose confused mental state and own personal loss make her every bit as alone as Peter Parker himself has become.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit the theaters on July 31, 2026.
