Zootopia 2 was the big film over the Thanksgiving weekend, opening on Wednesday and going on to score $158.8 million in its first five days at the domestic box office and snatching the number one spot from Wicked: For Good, a film that also pulled big numbers, securing $91.76 million during the same stretch. This weekend the two top contenders will face off with a bevy of newcomers, including another sequel, looking to unseat the current champs.
Starting out in 3,412 theaters, the widest of those newcomers is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The film begins one year after the terrible events at Fazbear’s Pizza. Former security guard Mike and police officer Vanessa have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby, concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s. The first installment picked up just over $80 million in its opening weekend back in 2023 and went on to pick up $137.28 million from North American shows while acquiring nearly $160 million internationally.
Also opening in wide release this weekend is the latest from GKIDS with the release of Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution. Making its way into 1,833 movie venues, the film is a theatrical pre-screening compilation of Jujutsu Kaisen season three. The dark fantasy feature opened in its native Japan on November 7 and expanded into multiple territories in late November before its most recent expansion this weekend.
Coming to 1,198 theaters this weekend is Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. The film is a single uncut version of Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2. The feature includes a new extended running time, an unseen anime sequence, and extra scenes of the Quentin Tarantino cult classic.
1930s England-set comedy Fackham Hall makes its cinematic debut in domestic theaters this weekend. The film is billed as a parody of classic British period dramas such as Downton Abbey, with an over-the-top feel, à la Monty Python. Fackham Hall can be seen in 1,112 North American cinemas.
Debuting in 1,084 is the Richard Linklater-directed Merrily We Roll Along. The film, based on the 1981 Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical of the same name, follows a talented Broadway composer as he abandons his friends and career to become a Hollywood producer. Spanning three decades, the story is told in reverse chronological order, starting in the characters’ jaded middle age, then rewinding back to their youthful idealism and initial hopes.
Entering 828 movie houses this weekend is the fantasy-drama 100 Nights of Hero, starring Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, and Maika Monroe. The film follows a woman whose neglectful husband leaves her alone for 100 days to test her fidelity as she becomes entangled in a love triangle with her loyal maid and her husband’s seductive friend.
Rounding out the top five this weekend is Zootopia 2, holding onto its opening count of 4,000 theaters. Just behind in 3,985 is Wicked: For Good, looking to add to its $278 million domestic total as it enters its third weekend. Occupying the third-place spot is Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, dipping below the 3,000 mark but still widely available in 2,629 locations. Lastly, Eternity adds 1,038 venues this weekend for a total of 2,386 theaters.
