Tyra Banks Talks Deleted ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ Death Scene

Tyra Banks Talks Deleted ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ Death Scene

Tyra Banks has beef with Halloween: Resurrection. She signed up hoping for an acting breakthrough and an unforgettable death scene. Instead, her character’s big moment didn’t even make the movie.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Banks recalled initially turning down the eighth Halloween film before her agent pointed to Josh Hartnett’s success following Halloween H20: 20 Years Later.

“I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that. What is it going to do for my career? I’m a model, and I need to do things that are kind of different to get this acting career that I want,’” she explained.

The pitch that changed her mind? Hartnett had done Halloween, and look where his career was going.

“So I was like, yeah, okay, this is going to do it for me,” Banks recalled. “Not only did it not do anything for me, they cut the damn death scene.”

Banks joked that she was “promised the career of Josh Hartnett, of an actor, and promised an iconic death scene that will last forever, and neither of them happened.”

“So, I have beef with Halloween 8!”

Frankly, I think Resurrection is the worst in the franchise by a mile. A complete disaster of a film, but that’s another conversation. You can understand her disappointment: she took a role she wasn’t particularly interested in because she thought it might lead somewhere, and then lost the scene that was supposed to make her memorable.

Banks plays Nora, one of the people behind the internet broadcast that sends a group into Michael Myers’ childhood home. In the finished film, Nora’s body is discovered, but we never actually see Michael kill her.

Here’s the part worth revisiting: she filmed that death, and the footage survives.

As Dread Central covered in 2018, Nora’s missing death can be found in a circulating workprint. Michael attacks her in the control room and strangles her with a cord. This was filmed material that ended up outside the theatrical cut.

According to JoBlo’s retrospective, the sequence was removed so the audience wouldn’t know Nora was dead before another character discovered her body. Our earlier coverage reported the same general reasoning about preserving an offscreen death.

The movie certainly didn’t repeat H20’s commercial performance. The numbers show approximately $37.7 million worldwide for Resurrection, compared with $64.9 million for H20. Critics weren’t kind, either: Resurrection currently holds 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

That doesn’t establish that the movie stalled Banks’ acting career, but she’s clear that it didn’t deliver the boost she had hoped for.

Asked whether she looks back fondly on making it, Banks told EW, “No.”

“Not even a little bit. Like, not even a tiny bit.”
