The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives series just dropped on Hulu. This docuseries follows the lives of eight Mormon influencers who gathered traction on TikTok in 2020. Online, these women primarily danced, utilizing the hashtag “MomTok” on their reels. All of these women are Mormon, but as their fanbase grew online, one of the ladies, Taylor Frankie Paul, broke the fourth wall, announcing her divorce from her then-husband, Tate Paul. She also revealed that they were into soft-swinging.
Soft-swinging is a concept that grants both parties in a relationship an out of sorts. You can partake in romantic, intimate moments with others, but certain restrictions apply. To be clear, these ladies were not all involved in Taylor’s big, scandalous, swinging-related reveal. But they all felt the heat online once this scandal broke, as their fans began pointing fingers.
Taylor Frankie Paul – Was involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Taylor is the reason we are all gathered here today. She sits at the center of this swinging scandal like a fresh-faced Mormon queen. In the first episode, she explained that her truth-telling caused her MomTok friends to become upset, as this scandal was “ruining [their] lives.” Yet, they still made jokes about this narrative online, which frustrated Taylor.
Taylor and Tate, her now ex-husband, engaged in soft-swinging practices for a few years, coupled with others from their friend group. It ended in their divorce because Taylor colored outside the lines, breaking their acceptable, agreed-upon boundaries. She is now dating Dakota Mortensen, with whom she shares a child.
As for who was involved and who was not involved in the MomTok swinging scandal, Taylor is a definitive yes.
Whitney Leavitt – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Whitney Leavitt is no stranger to scandal. Before these headlines broke, she was already a viral star, but in an ugh way. To explain, she filmed herself in the hospital, dancing as her newborn son fought his way through an RSV infection (omg that was her). But as for the MomTok swinging scandal, Whitney wants no part.
In The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she denied her soft-swinging participation. Yet this does not mean that her marriage is drama-free, as in 2022, she learned that her husband was secretly on Tinder. He never met up with anybody, allegedly. Instead, he only exchanged messages and photos.
He also had a porn addiction. But, as stated, neither one has ties to this swinging scandal.
Layla Taylor – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Layla Taylor is a divorced mother of two, sharing custody of her sons with her ex-husband. In the Mormon community, premarital sex and divorce are taboo topics. So when Laya fell pregnant, she quickly married her son’s father. But after their second son entered the world, their divorce followed, making Layla a scandalous figure twice over.
But this is where her scandals stop. Layla is not a part of the MomTok swinging scandal that rocked the Mormon church, the internet, and this wild group of Stanley-loving, dancing, chaotic friends. As for her two sons, they will not appear in the show’s first season. Layla and her ex-husband agreed that this was not the way.
Demi Engemann – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Demi Engemann and her husband Brett share a 17-year age gap. They also share custody of their children with their exes. Demi has a daughter, and Brett has two sons. The one thing they do not share, however, is their bodies.
This nope likely bums Taylor out, as in one of Demi’s confessionals, she revealed that Taylor mentioned it would have been fun to get together with her and Brett. Demi also explained that she’s been a guest at parties where swinging was happening. However, she didn’t know anything about that at that time. Likewise, Brett picked “up the vibe,” but he chose to say no.
Demi is a solid nope. The MomTok swinging scandal is not about her. But as an influencer, she loves the reach this scandal provided.
Jessi Ngatikura – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
In the series premiere of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Jessi Ngatikura made her swinging stance clear. She’s a nope. “I’m way too busy and tired. By the end of the night, I barely want to have sex with my husband half the time. I don’t know if I could handle four other guys,” she joked.
Jessi stays busy working as a hairdresser. She also owns a hair extension company and hair school called JZ Styles. According to her Hulu bio, she calls herself the grandma of this group, further making her tired stances track. But also, Jessi and her husband have three children, so yeah, put Jessi down as a firm nonparticipant in this MomTok swinging scandal.
Jen Affleck – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Jen Affleck is more than just the sister-in-law of Ben Affleck’s cousin once removed. She is also a nontraditional Mormon. Jen drinks and previously engaged in premarital sex. But don’t let these choices fool you, as she drew the line here. She and her husband are not swingers.
During the first episode, Jen spoke out in her confessional. She shut all rumors down, revealing that she was not a part of the MomTok swinging scandal. However, Jen does find all of this hype hysterical. In an interview with TooFab, she explained that there’s no way she could be a swinger, and if anyone thinks otherwise, know that your thoughts are still making her laugh.
Mayci Neeley – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Mayci Neeley tragically lost her boyfriend while carrying their first child. Their pregnancy announcement shocked her parents once Mayci and Arik Mack fessed up. But then, while driving and texting Mayci, Arik crashed his car and lost his life. Following Arik’s death, Mayci gave birth and found a new love, marrying her current husband, Jacob Neeley.
As far as Mayci’s involvement in the MomTok swinging scandal stands, Mayci comically broached this topic on TikTok. Wearing an oversized cozy tee, Mayci stands in a hallway as the words “When MomTok drama becomes public” appear overhead. She hates these words, punching in their general direction. Then, “People talking on Reddit” appears, with “Everyone now thinking you’re a swinger” following.
Mayci swings an even harder punch on these statements. She is not a part of this scandal.
Mikayla Matthews – Was not involved in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
Mikayla Matthews wraps up this list. And guess what? She is also not a part of this MomTok swinging scandal. Before her series aired, Mikayla remained coy about her role, teasing that we would have to watch The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to figure out where she stood amidst this viral scandal.
But in speaking with Fox News Digital, Mikayla opened up a bit more. As she and Taylor are close friends, people assumed she was a part of Taylor’s soft-swinging lifestyle. Yet assumptions are almost always inaccurate, as Taylor denies these claims.
“[We were] going to parties, not swinging parties, but hangout parties where none of that stuff was going down, and there were pictures of us with them,” Mikayla began, adding, “And so it was very heavily implied that we were involved.” But then Mikayla dropped the ax, revealing, “We were not involved. We didn’t even know that it was going down.”
There you have it. Only one star said yes. Perhaps in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2, cast additions might arrive. But if not, carry on, ladies, however you feel.
