Barry Keoghan is opening up about his alleged cheating scandal. Rumor is that the Irish star wasn’t faithful to Sabrina Carpenter during their time together. Barry and Sabrina had a brief romance, which began in late 2023. They broke up the following year.
For a while, Barry was absent from social media following their split, making very few public appearances as well. Now he is sharing why he was so distant during that period of his life.
Barry denies cheating on the sultry singer after a viral rumor
There was a good reason, in his eyes, for Barry to get off social media for a while. Speaking on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the Oscar-nominated actor said: “There was a narrative out there that was never really sort of even spoken on – a narrative that’s not true.” He admits that he didn’t confirm or speak on that subject at the time, but instead just vanished for a while. He admitted in March to distancing himself from online platforms in part because, for him, there’s plenty “of hate online.”
In his interview, Barry admitted that when you’re dating in the public eye, things can spiral quickly. He adds that in those situations’ rumours can get “amplified” online. He notes how someone online once made a cheating allegation against him, only to retract and admit it was all fabricated. Barry previously played Sabrina’s troublemaking love interest in her music video for Please Please Please.
While hearing false accusations didn’t sit well with Barry, he chose not to respond at the time. He did this because he didn’t want to pile onto the situation and potentially make it worse. Cheating allegations came about amid rumors from fans for months that Barry and Sabrina’s relationship was in trouble. Barry says the notion that he cheated was nothing more than fan fiction.
