You have been chosen to serve the light. Me? I’m willing to oblige, because Dark Sky Films just dropped a trailer and poster for folk horror film Blood Shine, and I must say…it looks very creepy.
Set in a desolate expanse of upstate New York, Blood Shine centers around Clara, a religious zealot who worships light in lonely, sacred rituals. When problematic horror director Brighton West travels upstate to finish the screenplay for his next film, a chance encounter with Clara leads him into a hallucinatory web of faith, flesh, and the sublime.
The trailer below features loads of cultish imagery, while teasing plenty of gruesome violence in the name of worship (that hammer in the mouth had me full-on cringing).
Emily Bennett (Shelby Oaks), David Call (Insidious: The Red Door), Brendan Sexton III (Russian Doll), Larry Fessenden (MaXXXine), and Toby Poser (Hellbender) star.
Talk about a strong cast. Actor/filmmaker Fessenden has a long history of nailing his roles, while Bennett and Poser have each become favorites of mine over the last few years.
Bennett and Justin Brooks (Alone with You) wrote/directed the film.
Producers are Alexander Schepsman, Zeus Kontoyannis, Garrett Fennelly, Aaron Koontz, and Ashleigh Snead.
Blood Shine arrives in theaters and on VOD/Digital Platforms August 21st from Dark Sky Films.
