Bob Dylan to release ‘The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1976 Live Recordings’

Bob Dylan is set to release a huge new box set called ‘The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1976 Live Recordings’ – check out all the details below.

Set to be released by Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the new launch will come as a huge 39-CD box set, which fully captures the legendary singer-songwriter’s 1976 tour.

Ready for release on November 6, the audio fully captures the tour alongside a stellar company of backing musicians and guest artists.

The trek kicked off on April 18, 1976 in Lakeland, Florida, and spanned 27 dates – concluding in Salt Lake City on May 25 that year. This is the first time that they have become available for fans to listen to since the shows.

In the release, there is a 3LP set of the complete May 16 Fort Worth show, remixed from the original multi-track tapes, and you can listen to Dylan’s rendition of ‘Going, Going, Gone’ from that show now.

Across the tour, Dylan reunited with Joan Baez to perform a moving set of duets across many dates, including performances of ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ and ‘Railroad Boy’.

Other members of the band that joined him for that tour included bassist Rob Stoner, violinist Scarlet Rivera, drummer Howie Wyeth, and guitarists Mick Ronson (of David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars), Steven Soles, David Mansfield and T Bone Burnett.

The 39 CD Deluxe set includes 381 tracks – 371 of which have never been released up until now – as well as a booklet with liner notes by Mikal Gilmore and rare photographs.

The 3LP complete Fort Worth show includes 22 tracks, check out the tracklist for that below. Visit here to pre-order.

“‘Idiot Wind’ in NBC’s Hard Rain is among the most rageful and brilliant performances Dylan ever committed before camera,” wrote writer and music journalist Mikal Gilmore in his liner notes essay.

“Yet again, it was for nought. […] One night, one hour only. It never saw any time in a theater. It was never rebroadcast, never issued as a video tape or DVD. It’s gone. All that’s left of the Rolling Thunder movie that was never made but instead played out on stages for four-and-a-half weeks in the spring of 1976, is what you now hold in your hands. Play the music, close your eyes, and watch the story.”

The tracklist for ‘May 16, 1976 – Tarrant County Convention Center Arena, Fort Worth, TX’ is:

‘Mr. Tambourine Man’
‘It Ain’t Me, Babe’
‘Vincent van Gogh’
‘Maggie’s Farm’
‘One Too Many Mornings’
‘Mozambique’
‘Isis’
‘Blowin’ in the Wind’
‘Railroad Boy’
‘Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)’
‘I Pity the Poor Immigrant’
Disc 33
‘Shelter from the Storm’
‘I Threw It All Away’ *
‘Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again’ *
‘Oh, Sister’ *
‘You’re a Big Girl Now’
‘You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go’
‘Lay, Lady, Lay’ *
‘Going, Going, Gone’
‘Idiot Wind’
‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’
‘Gotta Travel On’

*Previously released on the 1976 Columbia Records album Hard Rain

In other Bob Dylan news, earlier this summer the singer wrapped up the US leg of his 2026 tour by adding new guitarist Jimmie Vaughan to the live band.

The adjustment to the live band came following a tumultuous few months of line-up changes as the iconic singer-songwriter hit the road for his ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways’ tour. In June, guitarist Doug Lancio stepped back from touring duties after a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Around two weeks later, acoustic guitarist Bob Britt left the live band too, having been a part of the touring band since 2019. Addressing his departure, Britt shared a social media post that was later deleted.

At time of writing, it isn’t yet clear which guitarists will be joining Dylan for the UK and European leg of his ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways’ tour, which kicks off in Norway in October.

The UK trek starts in Bournemouth on November 25, and includes shows in Birmingham, Sheffield and Blackpool. From there, Dylan will head to the capital for five headline performances at the Royal Festival Hall between December 3 and 8. These dates mark Dylan’s first visit to London since his trio of gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in 2024. Visit here for tickets.

The tour has already seen Dylan return to a number of rarely played songs. Earlier this month, he performed ‘I Shall Be Released’ for the first time in 18 years at Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene, Oregon, after also reviving ‘You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere’ near Seattle for the first time since 2012.
