Your Halloween watchlist could probably use a rampaging hippo.
After arriving on digital this past June, Hungry is joining Prime Video on October 1, bringing its swamp-set creature carnage to the streaming service just in time for spooky season, reports WTS.
Written and directed by James Nunn (One Shot, Wildcat), the film follows a group of vacationers whose Louisiana boat tour leaves them stranded in the bayou. Unfortunately, there’s something considerably bigger than an alligator waiting in the water.
We’ve been following this one for a while, and our own Chad Collins gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
In his Dread Central review, Chad wrote, “Hungry is about a giant, monstrous hippopotamus, and it more than delivers on that front.” He praised the practical effects and Nunn’s handling of the creature-feature formula, while noting that the movie largely sticks to familiar territory.
Sometimes a giant hippo terrorizing tourists is exactly what you need.
The cast includes Madison Davenport (It’s What’s Inside), Joaquim de Almeida (Fast Five), Tracey Bonner (The Exorcism), Jim Meskimen (Apollo 13), Samantha Coughlan (Arcadian), Olivia Bernstone (Mood), Michel Curiel (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), and River Codack (Under the Bridge).
And if you missed the promotional campaign, we previously shared footage of an enormous hippo head mounted on a vehicle and driven through the streets of Thailand to promote the film. That’s one way to get people’s attention.
