A cartoon sheep on a VHS tape is getting a movie. Blumhouse announced a live-action feature based on the horror game Amanda the Adventurer at its BlumFest panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, with Matthew “MatPat” Patrick producing.
It is the first project under Patrick’s multi-picture deal with the studio, which covers indie horror games and horror YouTube channels. Epic Pictures chief executive Patrick Ewald produces as well, and no writer or director is attached yet. The pitch at the panel was “Dora the Explorer meets The Ring.”
The Game Is a Children’s Show That Answers Back
MANGLEDmaw Games made the original and DreadXP published it in 2022. Riley Park inherits their Aunt Kate’s house, starts going through what the reclusive woman left behind, and turns up VHS tapes of an early-2000s children’s cartoon. Amanda, the host, and Wooly the Sheep appear to communicate through the television. Two sequels followed, and Amanda the Adventurer 3 arrived in 2025 before reaching consoles in May.

Blumhouse Already Turned One Indie Horror Game Into $200 Million
Five Nights at Freddy’s opened to a record $78 million in the United States in 2023 and passed $200 million worldwide, and a third film is expected in 2027. The two properties run on the same engine: children’s entertainment is sinister if you keep looking at it.

Patrick created the Game Theory series, spent years on it pulling apart the hidden stories inside video games, and retired from hosting in 2024. He has spent a decade explaining games like this one to an audience. Now he is producing one.
The game’s whole trick is that the tape keeps playing after you want it to stop. Stretching that to feature length is either the easiest job on Blumhouse’s slate or the hardest.
