‘NCIS’ Boss Teases Season 24 Twists, Jess & Nick Development

Fans just saw NCIS‘ Season 23 come to an end. However, the next season could be here sooner than you think. In the meantime, a series showrunner has already teased what’s next to come, including the development of stories that just started to take root last season.

NCIS Is Expected To Debut Season 24 This Upcoming Fall

The long-running NCIS has been running since 2004. The first installment of the NCIS media franchise. The series revolves around special agents working for the namesake Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Recently, the series wrapped up Season 23 on May 12, 2026. However, things are already being teased about what fans can expect for its next season.

Season 24 is expected to debut this fall. In the meantime, the writers reportedly have a lot of ideas already. Speaking with TVLine, series showrunner Steven D. Binder shared, “We have a lot of things on the table.”

In particular, a resolution of the hints about a possible romance between team members Nick Torres and Jess Knight was teased. Binder admitted, “We certainly have been continually impregnating the moments with Torres and Knight whenever they’re together,” with the outlet highlighting the showrunner’s choice of words.

As Binder continued, “In a situation like that, where you have people who have feelings and the heart wants what the heart wants, and sometimes it might not be the right thing, all the parties involved are still figuring out what they want [and] coming to terms with maybe feelings they didn’t realize they had. That’s playing out before our eyes.”

After assuring that the storyline will continue next season, Binder noted that it wasn’t “much longer before some kind of head is going to be reached, one way or the other, for good or for bad.” However, that wasn’t the only storyline that had its resolution teased.

A New Side To Parker Was Also Teased For This Upcoming Season

The series recently ended on a cliffhanger in which McGee’s son, Mateo, pulled a gun on Nick before a gunshot could be heard. Binder assured that fans won’t have to wait long for this to be resolved once Season 24 returns. He shared, “Mateo, we’re going to have to get into that immediately. I don’t think we’re going to be stretching that thing out forever.” Binder was well aware that some fans would be worried it would be dragged out. As he noted, “It’s not going to be a Carla situation.”

As for Mateo, Binder continued, “I think he got involved in something. And we’ve got to get him uninvolved with it.” He also noted that the storyline “may set the table for something larger that we spend a little more time on over the season.”

As previously reported, it had appeared that Parker could have teamed up with Gibbs to take down Wayne Rogers this season. In keeping with this, it was teased that fans might soon see a darker side to Parker. Binder noted, “As [Wayne] Rogers says to him, quite nastily and unflatteringly to him, ‘You’re a bad seed. I know you, you’ve been playing cop, and I know what you really are.’ I don’t think he’s entirely wrong. I think that speech is in there for a reason.” He continued, “I think something has been unlocked inside Parker. [And] we will see the dark fruit of that over Season 24.”
