Sydney Sweeney is giving Noah Centineo a public shout-out, asking fans to support her Gundam costar with some love at the theaters for his latest film. Her recommendation arrives as the movie scores a franchise-best opening weekend, earning the long-running fighting series a new box office milestone.
Sydney Sweeney urges people to watch Noah Centineo’s Street Fighter
Sydney Sweeney used her Instagram Story to encourage moviegoers to check out Centineo’s Street Fighter, praising him as both an actor and a person. “This guy has a really cool movie out,” she wrote, adding that audiences should see it because he is “awesome” and “such a good human” who deserves support.
Centineo plays Ken Masters in the new Street Fighter movie, directed and co-written by Kitao Sakurai. The ensemble also features Andrew Koji as Ryu and Callina Liang as Chun-Li, alongside Jason Momoa, David Dastmalchian and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
The film hit theaters Oct. 16 and generated around $31 million across the domestic market in its first weekend, according to BoxOfficeMojo statistics. Its international rollout added another $20.1 million from 65 markets, pushing the movie’s opening worldwide haul to $52.7 million.
The new Street Fighter has already outpunched its live-action predecessors at the domestic box office, earning more on opening weekend than the earlier films managed combined. Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1994 adaptation debuted with $6.8 million, while Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li brought in just $4.7 million in 2010.
Audience reactions also favor the latest release. The movie currently holds a 79% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, well ahead of the Street Fighter (1994) movie’s 20% and The Legend of Chun-Li’s 18%.
Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo are also collaborating on Gundam, which will throw their characters into a sprawling conflict where giant machines become weapons in a bitter fight for control.
Shioli Kutsuna, Michael Mando, and Gemma Chua-Tran are also part of the cast. Based on Bandai Namco Filmworks’ long-running franchise, the project draws from the mecha tradition that helped define science fiction centered on towering combat robots.
