We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies

We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies

Madonna has announced the long-anticipated sequel to’ Confessions On A Dance Floor’ – with  ‘Confessions II’ arriving this summer to help listeners “dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies”.

The record is set for release on July 3 and marks the sequel to her seminal 2005 record, which she first started hinting at last February. After revealing that she had been “putting my heart and soul” into a new album, Madonna later shared that she had returned to Warner Records for the LP and was planning on releasing it in 2026.

Yesterday (Tuesday April 14), it seemed that an announcement was imminent when the pop icon’s entire Instagram account was wiped clean with her official website rebranded with a new ‘Confessions’ theme.

Now, after black-and-white posters were spotted in London, Madonna has announced that the new record will be released on July 3. She dropped the news on Instagram today (Wednesday April 15), unveiling the new pink and lilac album cover and simply sharing the title and release date in the caption.

On her website, the record is available to pre-order now and comes in two variations: a standard issue of the album which features 12 songs and a deluxe version that contains four bonus tracks.

At time of writing, the tracklists for both have not been shared, although Madonna has revealed that the first song will be titled ‘One Step Away’.

She also explains that the new record is best summed up in the opening lines of that track: “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language”.

‘Confessions II’ sees the queen of pop reunite with the producer of the original album, Stuart Price, whom she already revealed she had been working with back in December 2024.

“When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto: We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies,” Madonna explained. “These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect —with your wounds, with your fragility.”

“To rave is an art. It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people,” she added. “Sound, light, and vibration reshape our perceptions, pulling us into a trance-like state. The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time.”

The original ‘Confessions’ album featured singles ‘Hung Up’, ‘Sorry’, ‘Get Together’ and ‘Jump’, and went on to win the award for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 2007 Grammys. It also sold roughly 4million copies worldwide in its first week, and earned a place in the 2007 Guinness World Records after topping the charts in over 40 countries.

‘Confessions II’ will be Madonna’s first record since her 14th album ‘Madame X’, which arrived in 2019.

Around the time of that release, the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer spoke to NME about her relationship with being in the public eye. “It has its pluses and minuses,” she revealed. “The great thing about being famous is that you have a voice and you can spread messages and fight for people who don’t have the ability to fight for themselves, and share your wealth with people who need help.”

As for other new Madonna music, last month producer William Orbit revealed that he had written a “successor” to the classic Madonna album ‘Ray Of Light’, but claimed to have had “nil response” from the singer.

There is also a biopic on the way about the ‘Material Girl’ singer, and while no release date has been shared yet, it will see Julia Garner take on the lead role and Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy will be involved.
