Wonder Woman writer gives a peek into her approach to the DCU character. Supergirl and Wonder Woman writer Ana Nogueira has revealed how she approaches writing every character, including the Princess of Themyscira. Her comments come as Supergirl gears up for a release later this month.
Better known for her acting work, Nogueira has appeared in TV shows like The Vampire Diaries, Hightown, The Blacklist, and The Michael J. Fox Show. Her writing credits outside the DCU include the film Never Here and several theatre productions.
What did Ana Nogueira say about her approach to the DCU Wonder Woman movie?
Ana Nogueira, while speaking to Collider as part of the Supergirl promotional run, was asked what it was like writing for the film. She was also asked about her experience writing Wonder Woman and where she stood with the script. While Nogueira’s response was measured on the Wonder Woman front, it offered the host a glimpse into her broader approach to writing characters, including Supergirl.
“There will be a little sniper dot on my head if I say too much. But I will say that I try to approach every character that I write from a place of what feels the most true, to me, about them. For Kara, it was this backstory that she had. I always tried to come at it that way. Put on some blinders and see what the character means to me before I take them off onto the page,” Nogueira said.
During the same interview, it was revealed that the Supergirl film had a scene in which only Kryptonian was spoken. Commenting on the creative process behind it, Ana Nogueira said, “For me, the writing process was just a regular writing process because we had wonderful linguists translate my English into Kryptonian. I loved being able to write those kinds of heightened emotional scenes that are so different from the rest of the scenes in the movie.”

Starring Milly Alcock in the titular role, Supergirl boasts a cast that includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. The film is slated to release in theaters on June 26, 2026.
A release date for the untitled Wonder Woman film has yet to be announced.
