It may feel like R.J. Decker just premiered its second season, and you’d be right, it did, on September 15. But the finale is already nearly upon us.
The quirky dramedy, inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, follows Scott Speedman‘s private investigator as he tackles unusual cases in Florida. He even reunited with his father (Beau Bridges) in Season 2. But with the finale date approaching, will the series be back for a third season? Read on for everything we know so far about its future.
When is the R.J. Decker Season 2 finale?
R.J. Decker Season 2 wraps up its seven-episode run with the Tuesday, October 27, episode. In “Before You Accuse Me,” ABC teases, “Emi hires R.J. to re-investigate the murder of a police officer in hopes of exonerating a possibly wrongly convicted man who took the fall. The sensitive investigation puts him at odds with Mel.”

Is R.J. Decker renewed for Season 3?
Not yet. But it is way too early. The 2026-2027 season just began in September, and networks don’t unveil their plans for the following year’s broadcast season until May. Chances are we’ll be waiting months after the finale to hear about its future.
The first season ended on April 28, and news of the Season 2 renewal didn’t come until May 8 — and it was the last ABC show to have its fate decided.
When will R.J. Decker Season 3 premiere?
It’s too soon to even speculate. Season 1 was a midseason show, while Season 2 was a fall one. Should R.J. Decker be renewed, it could end up being either.
Who stars in R.J. Decker?
In addition to Scott Speedman as R.J. Decker, the dramedy stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, Bevin Bru as Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu, Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken, and Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix.
The series is produced by 20th Television. Showrunner and writer Rob Doherty executive produces with Speedman, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Carl Hiaasen, Jason Tracey, and Liz Friedman.
