James Gunn has sparked speculation about Wally West’s potential appearance in the DCU. The filmmaker recently gave a cryptic response when asked about the character.
On Tuesday, a fan on Threads asked Gunn whether Wally West, also known as the third Flash, is active in the DCU. The filmmaker gave an evasive response, saying, “Who knows?” Since Gunn refused to give a definite answer, some fans are convinced that Wally West might appear in the DCU much sooner than expected.
Wally West’s potential DCU appearance remains unconfirmed as DC Studios is yet to make any official announcement.
Who has played Wally West/The Flash in past DC projects?
Keiynan Lonsdale most prominently played Wally West in The CW’s Arrowverse shows. Lonsdale debuted as Wally West in The Flash and later reprised the role in Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Wally has also appeared in animated DC shows, voiced by notable actors such as Michael Rosenbaum, Jason Spisak, and Josh Keaton.
Gunn’s DCU has multiple highly anticipated movies and shows lined up. The psychological body-horror film Clayface is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 23, 2026, as part of the franchise’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Tom Rhys Harries will make his debut as the titular DC villain. Meanwhile, David Corenswet is set to reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming sequel Man of Tomorrow, which hits the screen on July 9, 2027. Other DCU movies in development are The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and an untitled Wonder Woman film.
In television, DC Studios will release The People v. Gorilla Grodd following Lanterns’ success. It also has Mister Miracle in production, while Booster Gold remains in early development. The DCU continues to expand with new heroes and stories, but Wally West’s potential debut remains unconfirmed at this point.
