What To Know
- Craig Melvin praised Dylan Dreyer’s apparent new look on NBC’s Today.
- Dreyer, however, explained that her new look isn’t from a haircut, but from a hairstyle change.
- Melvin recently opened up to fans about his own hair journey, revealing his hair is the longest it’s been in three decades.
A slight change in Dylan Dreyer‘s appearance sparked a hilarious reaction from her co-host Craig Melvin.
“Before we do anything else, I think we should take a moment and acknowledge Dylan Dreyer’s new haircut,” Melvin stated at the top of the third hour of Today on Wednesday, October 28. Al Roker corrected his colleague, saying, “It’s not a new haircut,” and Melvin replied, “Well, it’s a hairdo.”
After laughing at Melvin’s observation, Dreyer explained what was new about her on-air look. “Guys, I parted my hair in the middle,” she stated.
Though the change was small, Melvin complimented her new hairstyle. “You came in, and everyone in the studio said, ‘Dylan! Oh, my god! Your hair, it’s amazing!’ It’s a great look. We like it.” Dreyer, for her part, joked that she looked completely different just by moving her normal hair part over two inches.
Chiming in, Roker joked, “I can’t do a part.” Dreyer wrapped up the hair discussion by stating, “I can change my whole look very easily. It’s like Superman, you know? You put on the glasses, and you’re a whole new person.”

Later in the episode, NBC News personality and Today correspondent Savannah Sellers gave her two cents on the topic. “By the way, she’s done this before,” she said to Melvin, who said, “I just haven’t noticed before. We like it, though.” Dreyer appreciated Melvin’s kind words and said, “Thanks for looking.”
Melvin’s comments about Dreyer’s hairstyle come two months after he opened up to Today fans about his own hair changes. “Alright. Here we are. You’re coming along for my hair journey,” Melvin said in an August 4 Instagram video, noting that his hair was the “longest” it’s been in 30 years.
The following day, on the third hour of Today, Melvin and his co-hosts reacted to fans’ enthusiastic responses to his social media video. “Your Instagram went nuts over whether or not you should keep it growing. I like it,” Dreyer said.
While Melvin joked that he could grow his out to look like a member of the hip-hop duo Kid ‘n Play, Roker teased that Melvin looked like an “ebony Chia Pet.” Laughing, Dreyer said, “I wouldn’t take advice from Adl ’cause he’s jealous he doesn’t have any.”
Roker agreed with Dreyer’s playful jab, saying he was “living vicariously” through Melvin’s hair-growth journey.
