Big Brother is always watching, even in the year 1,000. After celebrating the show’s 1,000th episode, the Season 28 Houseguests were in for the shock of their lives — a new twist that would have someone leaving by the end of the night.
However, this twist meant no Head of Household, Power of Veto, or Blockbuster competitions. Instead, the 10 remaining Houseguests would compete in a series of competitions that would earn them safety if they won.
When the Houseguests entered the backyard, Season 12 and 14 fan-favorite Britney Haynes was dressed as Baroness Britney. She told the Houseguests about the twist and shared that whoever won the competition was able to save someone and then choose two people to face off against each other in the next competition.
The first competition was stacking six candles high on four podiums. If they fell off, the Houseguest had to start all over again. Whoever was the first to stack them all and put their ring on the rack won safety. Survivor‘s Dee Valladares won and chose her fellow tribal member, Rick Devens, to be safe.
She then had a decision to make on who to send in. Ultimately, it came down to who would save her ally, Angela Murray, if they won, because the Season 26 alum admitted that she “wasn’t good at comps.”
Dee chose Haley Thogmartin and Drew Campbell. In this competition, Count Cody, Season 22 winner and Season 16 Houseguest Cody Calafiore, appeared to tell the two of them that they had to stack crops correctly into their wheelbarrow. It was a puzzle with the vegetables being divided into different-shaped pieces. Drew was the first to complete the puzzle, earning safety.
He then had to choose who to save and who would face off against Haley in the next competition. Drew stuck with the Crossovers alliance and chose to save Angela. He then picked Barrett Pfeiffer as the next Houseguest to compete.
Being the last member of the alliance to have to earn safety, the pressure was on. They were told by Lady Tiffany (Tiffany Mitchell, Season 23) that they had to load balls into a canister and walk across a balance beam to deposit them into the spot at the end. They could not spill them, or they would have to go back and reload.
The competition was very close, but Barrett won in the end. He then had to choose two people to go out and face off against Haley. The winner from that competition then would choose one person to keep safe and one to send home.
The Houseguests that remained were Yash Patel, Melody Morris, Taylor Brown, and LaTrice Verrett. The other two that he didn’t pick were automatically safe.
His alliance wanted him to put LaTrice and Taylor out because they thought Haley would have a better chance of winning against them. Barrett was torn, but all he knew was that he was keeping Melody safe.
It was time to make his decision. Did he stick with his alliance or go with the other side of the house and send a message to the icons?
The episode ended on a cliffhanger, with Barrett’s choice and who was eliminated being left in the balance. Tune in to the 90-minute episode to see how it all plays out.
Then, after one Houseguest leaves, a regular week of Big Brother begins. A HOH will be crowned, three people will be put on the block, and play for the Veto. Then, the Blockbuster will play out on Thursday, sending one Houseguest to be the season’s first jury member.
