How the RHOSLC Cast Came Together for Mary Cosby After Tragedy

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 7 premiere was unlike any other Real Housewives premiere. Instead of the usual catch-up and light drama, the RHOSLC cast mourned the loss of Robert Cosby, Jr. On February 23, 2026, the only child of Mary Cosby and Robert Cosby, Sr. passed away. He was 23 years old, and the loss hit both the cast and viewers hard.

Mary had been open about Robert Jr.’s substance abuse issues. During a scene in RHOSLC Season 5, Mary and Robert had a candid and emotional conversation about his mental health and substance abuse struggles. It was heartbreaking and raw.

Mary hoped that scene would help others battling addiction. And in the RHOSLC Season 7 premiere, Mary once again showed unbelievable strength as she shared her journey. And the cast united to support her.

The season opened the day after Robert Jr. was released from jail. Mary discussed how happy she was to finally have her son at home. Sadly, Robert died just three weeks later. After Robert’s death, the cast reacted in their confessionals.

“You can do everything right, but you can’t control how things unfold,” Meredith Marks said. After the tragedy, Mary paused filming. However, in a lovely gesture of unity, the Salt Lake City ladies gathered at Angie Katsanevas’ house to remember Robert Jr. and show their love for Mary.

The feeling in the scene was heavy and sad. “As a mother, you never think that’s what’s going to happen,” Meredith told the group. “[You] never think that you are going to live longer than your kid.” Naturally, the cast reached out to support Mary in any way that they could.

Often, in times of grief, people pull away because they feel uncomfortable. It was heartwarming to discover that the cast was showing up for Mary behind the scenes, not just in front of the camera.

When Mary returned to filming, her first confessional was interwoven with footage of her entering her son’s darkened bedroom. “I have been avoiding Bub’s room, but his dog went in there. When this first happened, we took Kray to Bub’s room, and we let him smell the room. Smelled his clothes that he had on. And he knew,” Mary said in her confessional.

Mary continued through her tears, “I miss him. He was my best friend. He was my kid. He had that love for me that I never experienced.” She added, “He loved big. He was my gift, and I loved him like I’ve never loved anything.”

Mary also thanked viewers for all their messages and support during her time of sorrow. “I get messages daily, every day, at least a thousand. And I just want to tell them, ‘Thank you,’” she said.

Meanwhile, Mary invited her RHOSLC co-stars over to thank them for standing beside her during this difficult season of her life. “I can’t just wobble. Stop my life and wobble,” Mary told Meredith.

“I have to move forward. And Robert would want me to keep going. And his spirit will live within me, forever,” she added.

When all the ladies arrived, Mary shared how she was coping with her unimaginable loss. “I feel at peace. I feel like he’s not battling. He’s not struggling and wanting me to help him, and I couldn’t,” Mary said as she cried.

Finally, she thanked her co-stars. “And you guys are my family. Even though I didn’t ask for you. No, I’m kidding!” Mary said with a laugh.

At Angie’s get-together, Whitney Rose said that she wanted to apologize for comments that she made about Meredith and Lisa Barlow. She insulted the duo onstage at a Drag Brunch after consuming some alcohol.

In a clip, Whitney said, “Meredith’s a f*cking b*tch. I hate her.” So, when Lisa and Meredith got together for lunch, Whitney was the prime topic. Both agreed that Whitney’s apologies mean nothing.

“Whitney told her truth. In fact, she hates me, let’s be clear,” Meredith said in her talking head. “For whatever reason, she hates Lisa, too, just a little bit less than she hates me.”

Still, neither Meredith nor Lisa is willing to let the issue with Whitney go. “Nobody takes her seriously. It’s clown behavior,” Lisa said.

Obviously, this fracture between Whitney, Meredith, and Lisa will be a big storyline in RHOSLC Season 7. Thankfully, Lisa and Meredith agreed to table their issues so that Robert Jr.’s homecoming will be drama-free.

In the Season 7 premiere, Bravo gave us a beautiful tribute to Robert Jr., and to Mary’s grace and resilience. Even the cast put aside their anger with one another to support Mary in her time of need, and it was an achingly emotional episode.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. It streams on Peacock the next day.
