‘Dark Matter’ Returns, De Niro and Adam Scott in ‘Whisper Man,’ Conan Tiptoes Through Tulips, Anna Pigeon’s Storm Front

Jennifer Connelly and Joel Edgerton — 'Dark Matter' Season 2

Apple TV

Dark Matter

Which Jason Dessen is which — and which world are we in today? It’s not always entirely clear in this mind-boggling sci-fi drama starring Joel Edgerton as an everyman besieged by other versions of himself from alternate worlds. While a mysterious agent (Chris Diamantopoulos) investigates a morgue full of Jason corpses from last season’s climax, Season 2 catches up with OG Jason, his understandably freaked wife Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and their son Charlie (Oakes Fegley) after they’ve settled into a seemingly safe existence. Which probably won’t last. In an alternate world, Jason’s former best friend Ryan (The Walking Dead: Dead City‘s Jimmi Simpson) and one-time multiverse traveling companion Amanda (Alice Braga) make a startling connection.

Robert De Niro as Peter Willis, Adam Scott as Tom Kennedy and Michelle Monaghan as Amanda Beck — 'The Whisper Man'

David Lee/Netflix

The Whisper Man

Robert De Niro stars opposite Severance‘s Adam Scott in a grim mystery thriller based on Alex North’s unnerving novel. They’re father and son, but deeply estranged, so much so that Tom (Scott) changed his last name from Willis to Kennedy as he forged a career as a crime writer. De Niro is Pete Willis, a retired detective who some 30 years ago put away a serial killer of children known as the “Whisper Man,” who’s still in prison. So who’s the menace copying his methods who may have kidnapped Tom’s 8-year-old son, Jake? Michelle Monaghan costars as an active-duty detective helping in the investigation.

Conan O'Brien for 'Conan O'Brien Must Go'

HBO Max

Conan O’Brien Must Go

It’s a Dutch treat when Conan’s weekly travelogue sends the lanky goofball to the Netherlands, where he dodges than rides the country’s ubiquitous bicycles, dresses as Van Gogh to surprise patrons of Amsterdam’s famous museum and goes one-on-one to teach trash-talking to a friendly basketball player who’s a big fan. He also pays a visit to a tulip farm where he makes a bizarre PSA to warn against eating the flowers. “I live to make things worse,” he jokes, then proves it when he takes styling and fashion tips from a high fashion model. “I’m considered a god in Finland,” he humblebrags. Not so much, maybe, in this low-lying country.

Tracy Spiridakos and Paulina Alexis, 'Anna Pigeon,' Season 1, Episode 2, USA Network, August 14, 2026.

Anna Pigeon

A storm is heading toward Montana’s Glacier National Park, and ranger/officer Anna Pigeon (Tracy Spiridakos) takes it upon herself to evacuate two camping couples who are in danger of being swept away by flash floods. Anna being Anna, she senses “something weird going on” with this group as she leads them to safety, cut off by the storm from communication with the ranger station. Is there a killer in their midst? (This being a weekly mystery series, it’s not such a leap.)

Tim Robbins in 'Silo' Season 3 Episode 5

Apple TV

Silo

It’s the penultimate episode of Season 3, so expect some major events, and apocalyptic cliffhangers, in both time frames of the dense sci-fi thriller. Within the silo hundreds of years from now, Bernard (Tim Robbins) faces a stark sentencing as he instills doubt about the almighty Algorithm that’s controlling their fate. Could his Wizard of Oz analogy be accurate? As a rebellion brews in Silo 18, we flash back to the present day for the “big unveiling” of the Silo project, “one of the biggest engineering projects in the history of the world,” otherwise known as “Stensen’s Ark,” after the kazillionaire (Colin Hanks) who funded the underground survival bunkers. It’s a day the world won’t soon forget.

INSIDE FRIDAY TV:

  • Jeopardy! Masters (8/7c, ABC): The players face off in two more quarterfinals, which conclude Tuesday and decide who moves on to the semifinals.
  • Fightland (9/8c, Starz): Duke (Howard Charles) and Jay (Tyler Conti) embark on a rescue mission, which distracts the ex-boxer from his vendetta against Kingsley Marshall (Nicholas Pinnock), but another dark twist rekindles his vengeful focus.
  • Great Performances: Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2026 (9/8c, PBS): The music is as glorious as the scenery in the annual concert from Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace Park, with conductor Lorenzo Viotti and the orchestra joined by bass-baritone Bryn Terfel for a Verdi area and the Broadway standard “If I Were a Rich Man.”
  • Scott Peterson: The New Evidence — Reasonable Doubt (10/9c, A&E): A bonus special follows up last month’s docuseries with a discussion between legal analysts Chris Pixley (a defense attorney) and Joshua Ritter (a former prosecutor) as they debate the latest news in the Scott Peterson case and whether evidence from the Innocence Project’s recent petition merits a new trial.
