Kanye West wants more time before he faces a trial tied to Donda Academy. His legal team says issues make the October date difficult. The rapper has asked the court for a later date. His request comes as his team prepares for the case.
Kanye West has asked a judge to move his Oct. 12 civil trial to May 2027
According to TMZ, West’s lawyers filed documents last week asking to delay the Oct. 12 trial. They claim Benjamin Provo and his attorney have not cooperated during depositions and document discovery. West’s team says those delays have left important pretrial work unfinished. Provo has sued West over alleged discrimination during his time as a security guard at Donda Academy.
West also says the current trial date clashes with his planned Russia concerts. He is scheduled to play there Oct. 10 and 11 before trial is scheduled to begin. St. Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena initially planned to host the shows, but the venue backed out last month. The concert promoter is still looking for an alternative venue, but no other venue has been booked at this time.
West also brought up Yiannopoulos in his request for more time. His team claims that Yiannopoulos has valuable information regarding the claims in Provo’s lawsuit. West noted that U.S. immigration authorities “very recently and very publicly deported” Yiannopoulos. The former Kanye executive now remains outside the United States after his recent removal.
West wants the judge to move the trial to May 17, 2027, or another date that works for everyone involved. He also wants the court to impose sanctions against Provo and his attorney. The Oct. 12 trial date has not changed unless the judge grants West’s request. The court will now decide whether to approve the requested delay. For now, Ye’s team continues to seek more time before trial.
