Sweet Meats: Troma Blu-ray review

Sweet Meats: Troma Blu-ray review by Matt Boiselle

If you like your horror mixed with dark comedy, country music, cannibalism, and a healthy dose of Troma-style insanity, SWEET MEATS is one seriously entertaining little meal.

Written and directed by Ricky Glore, this 2025 horror-comedy musical follows country music superstar Bobby Sweet and his wife as their hamburger business takes off thanks to a very questionable “secret ingredient.” Let’s just say that business is booming for all the wrong reasons.

What makes Sweet Meats work is how completely committed it is to its bizarre premise. It’s bloody, funny, weird, occasionally gross, and filled with catchy country songs that you absolutely aren’t expecting to be this good. Eileen Earnest is a particular standout, bringing a ton of personality and dark comedic energy to the film.

This isn’t straight-up horror, and if you’re looking for scares, you probably won’t find many here. This is a dark comedy first, with plenty of gore and musical madness thrown into the mix. And honestly, that’s what makes it so much fun. The Troma Blu-ray is also nicely loaded, with a new commentary track, The Grind: The Making of Sweet Meats, a feature on the creation of the music, a feature-length cast and crew interview, and additional Tromatic extras. It’s certainly not going to be for everyone, but if you’re a fan of offbeat indie horror, Troma, bizarre horror-comedies, or movies that are completely unafraid to be different, Sweet Meats is worth sinking your teeth into.

A bloody, bizarre, musical burger of a movie — and I mean that as a compliment.

Special features include:

  • New Commentary Track

  • ‘The Grind’ – The Making of Sweet Meats

  • Evolution of a Song: Writing the Music of Sweet Meats

  • Cast and Crew Feature-Length Interview

  • Tromatic Extras
